The Roman Catholic Church continues to dominate church attendance in Australia with a weekly turnout of more than 570,000 worshippers at its 1223 churches.

That’s according to a study, titled Pulse Check 2021 to 2024, conducted by the National Church Life Survey (NCLS).

ACC PENTECOSTAL CHURCHES HAVE SECOND HIGHEST CHURCH ATTENDANCE

It found the Pentecostal Australian Christian Churches (ACC), formerly known as the Assembly of God, had the second highest attendance with more than 191,000 at around 1080 churches.

That’s more than a 250% increase on 1991 when the first NCLS survey was taken.

BAPTISTS AND ANGLICANS IN 3RD AND 4TH PLACE

It was followed by the Baptist Church (140,000) and the Anglican Church (118,000) which has the highest number of churches covering more than 2,500 congregations

The Uniting Church (59,000) had the second highest number of churches with more than 1,600.

1.3 MILLION AUSTRALIAN ATTEND CHURCH EVERY WEEK

The study found 1.3 million Australians attend one of 10,600 churches weekly.

In 2001, that figure was 1.5 million.

CATHOLICS AND ACC LEAD FAITH COMMITMENTS

When it comes to faith commitments, the Catholics led the way with 90,000 out of a total of 179,000 last year followed by ACC which had 52,000.

These two churches were far ahead of all other denominations.
