With the festive season upon us, there’s a sad reality that Christmas won’t be joyous for everyone.
For some in our community, poor health, loneliness, domestic violence and poverty will ensure Christmas is no reprieve from their daily struggles.
Christian not-for-profit community service provider Carinity – an outreach of Queensland Baptists – supports vulnerable people in their time of need.
This includes young people in residential care who, through no fault of their own, are unable to live with their parents or in kinship care.
REFUGE FOR TEENS IN CHILD SAFETY SYSTEM
Carinity On Track is a welcoming refuge for 12 to 17-year-olds in the child safety system, many of whom have suffered trauma.
On-site counsellors and youth workers provide a nurturing, structured, family-like environment for young people with complex needs that other forms of care are unable to meet.
“The children are usually grappling with behavioural issues triggered by their trauma,” said Carinity On Track Program Coordinator, Sammie McLardy.
“It’s our mission and passion to guide them on how to express their emotions in more constructive ways.”

“Our goal is to create lasting positive memories for our young people, so they know there are people who truly care about them,” Sammie explained.
“We celebrate achievements and actively support hopes and dreams, fostering an environment where individuals can truly thrive.”
“The positive changes we see are immense, as individuals develop essential life skills, and become empowered to find their own solutions to the barriers they face.”
THE IMPACT CARINITY ON TRACK CAN HAVE
Each success story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact Carinity can have.
That could be from daily routines, such as preparing for school and participating in cooking nights, to achieving milestones like reunifying with families or gaining independence.
The Carinity Christmas Appeal raises funds to help vulnerable young people.
This includes providing the opportunity to attend a Christian outdoor recreation camp, and build a playground to support children impacted by trauma to engage in counselling.
